Record group 98-152 contains maps and inspection reports of Michigan deer yards for the years 1924-1963 (bulk of material is 1936-1963). These standard county maps are annotated by hand to show the location and food conditions of all the deer yards within a individual county. These hand colored maps represent the most detailed visual record of the deer population for northern Michigan in existence. The deer yard inspection reports provide an excellent record of the flora and fauna of northern Michigan. The reports document the date, name of the deer yard, the county, the township, range and section coordinates, the average snow depth, the total area, the deer concentrations, general food conditions, types of food available, how heavy the browsing is, the deer population, the deer condition, predator signs, cutting operation effect on deer, the likelihood of starvation, and a map of the yard.
